About Nucleocide.net
First of all, Nucleocide.net is a place offering tutorials on various programs and languages directly related to website development. Currently tutorials will be offered on client side layout (CSS & HTML, and Photoshop), client side processing (javascript), server side thinking (PHP), and server side databasing (MySQL). More languages / programs may be supported in the future.
Nucleocide.net is also in the process of forming affiliations with other sites offering content also aimed for the web design community. A few have been made thus far and more are being attempted. Forming affiliations will help all sites in the web design community, not just Nucleocide.net.
Some programs / complete source code will be made available for download. Currently there are two such PHP programs available for download, a file browser and a hit counter (Available in the files section).
Nucleocide.net itself is a program which (hopefully) will be made available for download. It is a content management system that has been in development by Thomas Hunter for the last few years. It has a few features that I won't go too far into here. I will say that is uses PHP, MySQL, users can create an infinite number of pages, all that good stuff. When eventually released it will be under the GNU/GPL license to you can hack at it as much as you want.
Nucleocide.net Philosophy:
The file extensions on any page you look at are .htm, however there are no .htm files on this server. Everything is dynamic. A lot of sites out there store information in flat html files but I prefer to make everything dynamically loaded from databases (wouldn't be a CMS without this feature would it?). The top referrer list IS dynamic. 90% of the content on this site is (and one day 100%).
Tables and IMG's are bad for layout. Don't get me wrong, they have their purposes, just not for layout. If I feel the need to redesign my entire site, instead of spending hours reworking the code all I have to do is modify one CSS file, and of course the accompanying images.
Tools used:
- Notepad++ (Syntax highlighted editor)
- Photoshop CS2
